George Shoun - BUTLER
George C. Shoun, 91, a well known owner-operator of Shoun Lumber Company, Butler, went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2008, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was a native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late William Arthur Shoun Sr. and Grace Kyte Shoun. He was a 2nd generation operator of the Lumber Company that his father started in 1908.

He was a godly man with an overwhelming love for life and his family and a great respect for his fellow man. He was an avid business man with a great knowledge and wisdom of many aspects until the day he passed. He made a lasting impact on everyone he met adults and children alike.

He was a mentor, a father figure to many individuals and obtained an earned respect from all those who knew him. His life on earth was filled with love and greatness. The impact he made during his life and his memory will endure forever. His best loved hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Mr. Shoun was a member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three Brothers: Thelmer Shoun, Butler, John Shoun, Bunkie, La., and Arthur Shoun Jr., Butler; and three sisters: Mary Nutter, Christiansburg, Va., Edna Grissendanner, Prattville, Ala., and Nancy Langlands, Warren, Mi.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years: Irene Laws Shoun; A Daughter & Son-in-Law: Linda Shoun Grindstaff and Benny, Mountain City: A Son & Daughter-in-Law: Larry Shoun and Deana, Butler; Three Granddaughters: Jill Shoun Blevins and husband, Max Blevins Jr., Katie Shoun Harrell & Husband, John Harrell, and Kelly Shoun, all of Butler; Two Grandsons: Blake Grindstaff and wife, Jackie Sluder Grindstaff, John Burleson and wife, Amanda Greene Burleson, Butler; Four Great Grandsons: Travis Grindstaff and Dakota Grindstaff, both of Mountain City, Conor Burleson and Carson Burleson, Butler; One Great Granddaughter: Josie Cheyenne Grindstaff, Mountain City; Several Nieces & Nephews; His special Care Giver, Hortencia Beunfil and her family.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Alan Koch and Rev. Bruce Simcox officiating. Interment will follow in Butler Memorial Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be his family: Linda Shoun Grindstaff, Larry Shoun, Blake Grindstaff, Travis Grindstaff, Dakota Grindstaff, Benny Grindstaff, John Burleson, Jill Shoun Blevins, Katie Shoun Harrell and Kelly Shoun. Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Shoun Lumber Company and His Church Family of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.

To those who prefer memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Shoun to the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church or the Butler Volunteer Fire Department.

Nyoka “Nicky” Kyte Weaver, 63, Butler, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021, in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born April 18, 1958, in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. She was a daughter of the late Haskiel Reece & Beulah Lee Lipford Kyte. Nicky was a graduate of Johnson County High School. She was a retired employee of Northeast Correctional Complex. She was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. She loved to read.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years: Melvin Weaver; her Sister & Brother-in-Law: Barbara Kyte “B.K.” and Jim McCloud, Oxford, North Carolina; her Brother & Sister-In-Law: Gary & Barbara Kyte, Butler; her Nephew: Alan Todd and wife, Belinda Kyte; Several Cousins & Friends; her special friend: Barb Miller and her cat Jasper.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, in Butler Memorial Park with Rev. Bryan Cable officiating. Larry Dean Shoun, 69, Butler, departed from this earth to go to his forever home Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born July 16, 1949, in Mountain City, and resided in his beloved community of Butler, Tn his entire life. Larry was a graduate of Hampton High School in 1967 where he had a successful football career that earned him a scholarship at Less-McRae College in Banner Elk. His football career continued there for a freshman year. He then attended the National Hardwood Lumber Association Certified Lumber Grader Program. He was a rock, both physically and spiritually. He never faltered in his beliefs or his work ethic. He strived every day to make everything and everyone he touched better than he found it. He always wanted what was best and never failed to do what was right. He was a lover of fellowship with all people and animals, he loved football, good food, giving lectures and traveling with his wife and dear friends Eddie and Pat Clawson. He was the 3rd generation owner and operator of Shoun Lumber which was his life's passion outside of his family. He loved to work at the mill and everything it entailed. Some of his favorite hobbies included hauling and delivering firewood and mulch to customers and delivering hams at Christmas time to friends, neighbors and customers. He would often disappear for hours "playing" on his loader moving his dirt and mulch. He was a member of the Butler Ruritan Club where he had served as President. Larry loved his communities of Johnson & Carter County; he supported local schools in their sports program and supported several organizations. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father George C. Shoun who died August 22, 2008.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Deana Grindstaff Shoun. His Children: John Burleson & wife Amanda, Butler, Jill Shoun Hughes & husband Bryan, Johnson City, Katie Shoun Harrell & husband John, Butler and Kelly Shoun, Butler. Five Grandchildren: Conor Burleson, Carson Burleson, Chamis Harrell, Landry Hughes and Laynee Hughes. His Mother: Irene Laws Shoun, Butler. His Sister: Linda Shoun Grindstaff & husband Benny, Mountain City. Several nieces & nephews. His adopted family Rico & Hortencia Buenfil, His brother-in-law: Jerry Grindstaff. Bill Shoun, who was like a brother to him. His dogs: Booger & Chewy.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Larry Dean Shoun will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Kennedy and Rev. Terry Richardson officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019, in Butler Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Wood and Rev. Gary Roe officiating. Music will be provided by Christy Malone. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday will be: John Harrell, Bryan Hughes, John Burleson, Tony Deloach, Tom Kyte, Tim Laws, Rico Buenfil, Bill Shoun, Jason Clawson and Eddie Clawson.

JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Shoun Hampton, 71, Johnson City, slipped away into Heaven on March 11, 2021 after many years of illnesses. She was born in Elizabethton, TN and was the daughter of the late Arthur “Sonny” Shoun and Georgia Lewis Shoun. She was a former member of Butler Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church, Johnson City. She attended Fountain of Life Bible Church, Johnson City when her health permitted. She was a member of the following organizations: Charter Member Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 Elizabethton, TN; Life Member Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2108 Auxiliary, Johnson City; Member Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent 5 Auxiliary, Smyrna, TN; Member of Butler Chapter # 218 Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her Husband of 44 Years, THP Lt. (Ret.) Bill Hampton, Brother , Bill (Yvonne) Shoun, Hampton, TN, Niece, Stephanie Shoun (Chris) Grindstaff, Elizabethton and Nephew, William (Chessie) Shoun, Elizabethton, She is also survived by several Great Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Wood, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the service. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Section); everyone is to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Active Pallbearers are: Larry Reece, Gary Reece, Donnie Danner, Chris Grindstaff, William Shoun, Zachary Young, 2 Members from Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 TN. Honorary Pallbearers are Member of Rolling Thunder Chapter 4 TN. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Butler Chapter #218 Order of Eastern Star prior to the service.
