Bonita Carmen Guy (Douthwaite) passed away on Nov. 29, 2019, at her residence in Concord. She was born on June 27, 1935 to the late Robert P. and Craythie Shell Guy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Sister: Mary Elizabeth Guy Gentry; and her Brother: Carson Guy, who died in World War II.

A native of Banner Elk, Carmen attended both Lees-McRae College and Appalachian State University, receiving her teaching degree in elementary education. "Mrs. Douthwaite" taught in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, retiring in 1993. Most of her teaching years were at Newell Elementary and later at Mallard Creek Elementary. Many of her students would still visit her and tell of fond memories having her as their teacher.

Carmen enjoyed owning and breeding German shepherd dogs, singing in the Charlotte Oratorios, hiking, skydiving, the beach, had a great love of nature, her cats and just loving life and people.

Carmen leaves behind a lifelong Friend and guardian: Caroleen Sanders; Tommy Thompson, who was like a son to her; and special Friend: Patti Hart. Special thanks to Lorie Jones and the employees at The Gardens of Taylor Glen where Carmen spent the last years of her life.

A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at the Elk Cemetery in Banner Elk.

Mary Alma Combs Trivett, age 89, of Sugar Grove died February 7, 2019 at her daughter's home.
Alma was born June 3, 1929 in Watauga County. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
She was well known for her homemade chicken and dumplings, livermush, and Christmas stack cakes.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Trivett and wife Janet of Rembert, South Carolina; one daughter, Teresa Isaacs and husband Larry of Zionville; one sister, Loy Carolyn Guy of Vilas; one granddaughter, three grandsons, eight great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd Trivett; one daughter, Claudia Trivette; two sisters, and thirteen brothers.

Jennie Lee Steiner, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Bristol Regional Hospital. Jennie was born on January 21, 1937 to the late Thomas Wilburn Ward and Vada Dugger Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Steiner Jr; grandchildren, Nicolette Miller, Joshua Steiner, and ten siblings. Jennie worked as a hospital aide for over 28 years in Fort Myers, Florida. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Connie Jones of Mountain City, Treshia Steiner of Cape Coral, FL; sons, Francis Steiner IV of Mountain City, Stephen Steiner (Leslie) of Cape Coral, FL, James Steiner (Stephanie) of Murfreesboro; brothers, Thomas Ward, Earl Ward (Kathy); eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Allie Beatrice Eames, age 78, of Mountain City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1938 to the late Thomas Wilburn Ward and Vada Ruth Dugger Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Allie worked in the restaurant business for many years before her retirement.

Survivors include sisters: Jennie Steiner and Willie Dickens, and brothers; Thomas Ward and Earl Ward. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It was Allie's wish to be cremated with no formal service being held and for her cremated remains to be interred at Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, MD.

Our beloved mother, Lennis Clara Combs, age 73, of Mountain City, Tennessee and formally from Watauga County, North Carolina; went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Lennis was born on March 19, 1946 in the Bethel Community of Watauga County, North Carolina to the late Bonnie Mae Love Combs and Robert Paul Combs. Along with her parents, Lennis was preceded in death by her sisters: Earlene Skinner and Mary Norman; and brother, Redgie Combs. Lennis graduated from John Powers Beauty College in Cincinnati, Ohio and began modeling and designing hair in 1960. She later relocated to Vilas, North Carolina so her daughters would have the pleasure of growing up in the country. Lennis was amazingly talented as a model, hair designer, seamstress, painter, poet, bass player, homemaker, banker, retail manager, bus driver and job coach. She had an extraordinary love for children and was a foster parent for two decades in North Carolina. She had the privilege of aiding many children during the years, with one exceptional child, Beth Rubio. It was her love for children that empowered her to be a job coach for the special education department and bus driver for the Johnson County School Systems. This career spanned 32 years across both the states of North Carolina and Tennessee. She retired from the Johnson County School System in 2004. Many knew her best for her role as a banker with North Western Bank in Boone, North Carolina and Johnson County Bank in Mountain City, Tennessee. Those left to cherish her memories include: two daughters, Monica Lynn Hollar Krenz and husband Michael David Krenz of Texas and Tammy Hollar Scott and husband David Hunter Scott of South Carolina; two sisters, Helen Taylor and Irene Smith of Liberty Township, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Redgie Paul Combs, age 62, of Vilas, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at his home.

Redgie is survived by two sons, Sean Combs and wife Ashley of Goshen, Ohio, and Jamie Combs, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two granddaughters, Savannah Combs and Ella Combs, both of Goshen; two grandsons, Hunter Combs and Gage Combs, both of Goshen, and four sisters, Helen Taylor of Middletown, Ohio, Lennis Combs of Mountain City, Tennessee, Irene Smith, and Mary Norman, both of Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Paul Combs and Bonnie Love Combs, and one sister, Earlene.

Funeral services were held at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Eric Cornett. Burial in Rest Haven Cemetery, Sharonville, Ohio.
