- Ira Harmon, 63, 4785 Dry Hill Road, Butler, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness. He was a native of Avery County, North Carolina, born January 13, 1941 to the late Earl and Senia Hicks Harmon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, twin infant brother, Arlan; infant brother, Richard and Junior Harmon. He was a farmer and carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Harmon, of the home; three sisters, Betty Montlene and husband Jimmy, Millville, New Jersey; Louiese Taylor and husband Donnie, Charlotte, North Carolina; Helen Buchanan and husband, Sammy, Hickory, North Carolina; one brother, Allen Harmon and wife Shirley, Elk Park, North Carolina; special cousin, Lodia Utsmon and husband Layman, Jonesborough, Tennessee; many special friends in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Williams officiating.
Graveside services and interment followed in the Sunset Memorial park, Mountain City, Tennessee.
Active pallbearers were Kenny Lewis, Johnny Dugger, Roger Norris, Wayne Truesdale, Ricky Guy and Jerry Greene.
Honorary pallbearers were Tunnie Freeman, Horace Crawford, Bob Doyle, Dewey Wright, Bruce Triplett and John Triplett.
