- Hubert Shepherd, 87, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010, at Appalachian Christian Village following a brief illness.
He was the son of the late George Dewey and Josie Hubbard Shepherd and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Georgia Kappes, Beulah Price, Juanita Honeycutt and Effie Lunceford; a twin brother, Herman Shepherd; and the mother of his children, Lillie Rose Pierce Shepherd.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WW II. Mr. Shepherd was retired from NARC and was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Dugger Shepherd, of the home; two daughters, Glenda Collins and her husband, Jack, Vivian Price and her husband, Louie; two sons, Donnie Shepherd and his wife, Mary, Johnny Shepherd and his wife, Debbie, all of Elizabethton; a step-daughter, Crystal Stevens and her husband, Chris, of Elizabethton; a step-son, Christopher Bawgus and his special friend, Chris Snider, of Johnson City; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister Janie Rasnick and her husband, Wayne, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Shepherd will conducted on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Paul Crowe, Rev. Carl Grindstaff, Rev. Kenneth Davis and Rev. George Hall officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service or at Mr. Shepherd's residence in Johnson City, or at the residence of his son, Donny Shepherd, 238 Old Watauga Road, Elizabethton, at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 11:00 AM in the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee, with Rev. Paul Crowe officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Active pallbearers will be Scottie Price, Bill Collins, Todd Dean Price, Daniel Shepherd, Don Shepherd, Jonathan Huckaba, Chris Stevens and Mickey Lash. Tim Collins will be an honorary pallbearer.
