- Ted Tipton, age 85, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 in Kingsport, TN at Holston Manor. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late C.E. and Texanna Tipton. He was also preceded in death by sister, Edolene Hughes and her husband, Lindsay; brother, Albert Tipton and wife, Cara; sister-in-law, Irene Tipton and brothers-in-law: Frank Peterson and Kenneth Gouge. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Ted was former Deacon and groundskeeper at Peterson Chapel Church of the Brethren in Poplar. He retired as the personnel manager at Glen Raven Mills. He enjoyed bluegrass music, spending time with his friends at the tire shop and Buchanan and Young. Ted loved to take care of his family, especially his wife and daughter to the fullest. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and great father.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Wanda Peterson Tipton; daughter, Donna Tipton Charlton and husband, Mike, of Burnsville; sisters: Barbara Miller and Betty Tipton both of Huntdale and Irene Peterson of Green Mountain; brother, Stanley Tipton of Erwin, TN and sister-in-law, Juanita "Bebe" Gouge of Green Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Chapel at Valley Funeral Home in Erwin, TN. Rev. Jim Griffith and Rev. Randy Griffith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens.
