- Ray Turbyfill, age 73, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Ray was born in Avery County, NC to the late Clifford Ben Turbyfill and Florence Jack Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant Brother: Billy Turbyfill; and two Sisters: Peggy Turbyfill and Geraldine Gwinn.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and was of the Christian faith. He had worked in distribution services for Ingles for more than 10 years. Ray loved growing things such as flowers and trees — he was a wonderful nurturer. He loved children, painting and building and crafting buildings.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted Wife of 27 years: Valleree Jean Queen Turbyfill, of the home; his Children: Doug Turbyfill, Dale Turbyfill, Patty Flowers, Michael Williams, Christopher Hooks and Jake Turbyfill; 14 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Joann Taylor, Jill Jones and Patty Hicks; and his Brothers: Earl Turbyfill, Michael Turbyfill, Danny Turbyfill, Donny Turbyfill and Hobert Turbyfill. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Ray Turbyfill will be conducted at 10 a.m. in the Johnson Roanview Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Tenn., with Pastor Marvin Slagle, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jake Turbyfill, Michael Williams, Tanner Hooks, Mitchell Markland, Christopher Callaway and Jordan Callaway. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home in Roan Mountain Rhododendron Chapel at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, to go in procession to the cemetery.
