- William was the oldest son of James Jenkins [1800-1845] and Catherine Bolling [1806- 1900] .He married Elizabeth Jane Snider March 15,1853 in Carter County.Prior to the Civil War, he and his brother David worked as hammermen in a bloom forge in Crab Orchard. William was elected Captain of Company C of the 13th Regiment , Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry upon the organization of that unit . He was an honest , conscientious officer but was in ill health a great part of the time and had to resign January 21, 1865. He was succeeded by his brother, Lieutenant David Boyle Jenkins.After the war was employed as an agent/supervisor in the local iron mining industry.
