- Davis Irvin Carter, 86, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away at home on April 16, 2008. He was born on April 15, 1922, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William O. Carter. He served his country honorably and faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was also a 50-year Master Mason.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife of over 59 years, Blanche Trivette Carter and two grandsons, Matthew Stuart Carter and Clark Howell McElroy, III.
He is survived by a daughter, Pat (Howell) McElroy, Fayetteville; two sons, Billy Carter, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Tommy (Patsy) Carter, Stockbridge; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris (Dave) Hirsch, Senoia, Barbara (Joe) Sprayberry, Lithonia, Mary Elizabeth Gower, Buford, Grace (Alvin) Wallace, McDonough; brothers, Charlie (Louise) Carter, Lynn Haven, Florida, Jack (Darlene) Carter, Loganville; sisters-in-law, Orbie (Linville) Ward, Boone, North Carolina, Lennis (Allen) Snyder, Mountain City, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Dexter (Willaree) Trivette, Sugar Grove, NC.
Funeral service held Saturday, April 19 in the Chapel of Carl J. Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Pastor Bevel and Pastor Dannie Hix officiating. Masonic gravesite service at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park.
