- Mrs. LenaChambers, 83, 679
Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain,
died Friday, February at
Johnson City Medical Center following
an extended illness.
Mrs. Chambers was a native of
Carter County and a daughter of
the late Frank and Lou Hicks Mccellan.
She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Ward Harrison
Chambers, and a son, Ray
Harrison Chambers.
Mrs. Chambers was a homemaker.
She attended Sunrise Free
Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons,
Floyd Chambers, Lon Chambers,
Eari Chambers, James Chambers,
.Chuck Chambers and June Chambers,
all of Roan Mountain; five
daughters, Nannie Lou Miller and
Delia Ann Stephens, both of
Hampton, Rosa Mae Birchfield,
Bonnie Sue and Betty Sue
Chambers, all of Roan Mountain;
35 grandchildren; 40
two
children; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted
at 2 Monday, February
16, in the Sunset Chapel of
Funeral Home
with the Rev. Perry Markland, the
Rev. Bill Shoupe and the Rev.
Charlie Trivette officiating. Music
will be by Ty Powell, Charlie Miller
and Margaret Smith. Interment
will follow ln the Captain Nelson
Cemetery. Active pallbearers .will
be Dean Smith, Tommy Roberson,
Bill Highsmith, Roger Stevens,
and Randy Chambers. Honorary
pallbearers will be Mike
Simerly, Bill Street, Alan Lewis, Jeff
Powell, Gary Clark, Tim Chambers,
Ford Julian Jr., Jimmy Lyons,
Robbie Lyons and Jeff Hill. The
will receive friends at the
funeral home from 6 to 8
Sunday. Friends may call at the

Roan Mountain, at any time. On

Putman
Putman, 69, .301 Cove
Creek Road, Roan Mountain, did
Friday, February at Johnson
City Medical Center.
Mr. Putman was a native of
Mitchell County, and a son
of the late Elmer and Mary Jarnigan
Putman.
Mr. Putman had lived ln Caner
County most of hls life. He was a
retired vinyl siding contractor and
attended Sugar Hollow Free Will
Baptist Church.
Survivors Include his wife,
Bertle Roberts Putman; a son and
Rick and Tammy
Roan Mountain; a special
granddaughter, Rachel Putman,
Roan Mountain; two sisters, Hazel
York and Velma both of
Johnson City; several nieces and
nephews; and a special cousin,
Wanda Stockton.
Funeral services will be con-- ducted at 8 Sunday, February
15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Doug Wagner and
Mr. Gerald Holly officiating.
Graveside services and interment
will be at ll Monday, February
16, in the Hughes Cemetery,
Active pallbearers,
who are requested to assemble
at the cemetery at

Stockton, Roy Roberts, Wade
Hughes, Douglas Robens and
Chris Honorary pallbearers
will be Steve Dyer, Matthew

friends from 6 to 8 Sunday
at the funeral home. Friends

Kenneth R. Smith
Kenneth R. Smith, Lee
Street, died Friday, February
at Johnson City Medical
Center.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident
of County and a son of
the late Frank and Bell Whitson
Smith. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by a
brother, Manes Smith, and a
nephew, Allan Smith.
Mr. Smith was a farmer.
Survivors include a brother and
Buri and Doris Smith,
two sisters, June Gaddy,
Erwin, and Jean Smith,
four nephews, Jeff Smith, Richard
Smith, David Smith and Jack Gaddy;
and a niece, Gaddy.
Funeral services will be held at
8 pm. Monday, February 16, from
the Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Todd McLaughlin officiating.
Music will be provided by
Tracy McLaughlin and Mary Smith.
Graveside interment
will be held at 1 Tuesday,
February 17, in the Jones Cemetery,
Active pallbearers will
be Phillip Hensley, Tommy Hensley,
Neil Hensley, Ricky Hensley,
Bud Honeycutt, Hardy Shelton
and Cliff Shelton. Honorary pallbearer
will be John Hensley. All
pallbearers are requested to assemble
at the funeral home by
Monday and at the
cemetery by Tuesday.
The family, minister and friends
may gather at the cemetery by
Sunday. The family will
receive friends from 7 to 8
Monday at the funeral home.
