- Ollie Whiteaker & Earl Ellis, accompanied by Irene Ellis (sister of Earl) and Zack Johnston (later married to Irene) first went to Abingdon, VA to get married. Ollie was only 20 years old and Earl thought that since her father was the deputy sheriff of Washington County they would be able to be married there. They were told she was underage. They then went to Bristol, TN where they were married in a Presbyterian Church. When Ollie was asked her age, Earl said 21 before she was able to respond.
