- This information comes from Calista Harton's Bible copied in 1938 in Quitman, AR, by Hattie G. Harton, (Mrs. D.O. Harton, JR.) Nancy Kamp has the original. Mrs. Harton adds that c. 1845 Mrs. Love joined the Methodist Church in Morgan Co., AL. Hattie says that this was in a newspaper clipping found in Aunt Calista's Bible.
Teliza Love applied for a pension on 1 June 1871 [ Act #5383, 14 February 1871] before John Jackson, Judge of the Probate Court of Van Buren County, Arkansas [The instructions make clear that the application must be done before a judge, not a justice of the peace.] Two witnesses Wm K Bradford and Alison [signature Allanson] Witt testify that she is " respectable and entitled to credit" and that they saw her sign her name. The application calls her "Teliza", but she signs it Lizzie. She says that she is now living in at the Harton home near Quitman,Van Buren County, Arkansas.
A letter from the Quitman postmaster, E. J. Witt, testifies to her loyalty and to the good character of William K. Bradford and Allanson Witt, her witnesses on 25 July 1872. By September 1872 a certificate had been received from Southampton County acknowledging the marriage of Benjamin Love and Elizabeth Oney on 16 March 1814.
18 June 1872 Jos. E. Eldredge, J.P. testifies to her loyalty and that of her witnesses.
The certificate was finally issued 2 October 1872 for eight dollars per month. The number of the bounty land grant, 17267-160-55, was written on the pension #4077, in another hand. The implication on the certificate was that she would receive money going back to 14 February 1871 when the act was authorized. Vol. Ark, Page 29, H.M. Kavanaugh, Clerk.
