- John C. Hicks was born in Mountain City Tenn., January 23, 1852, where he resided until 1914 when he came to Oregon where he lived until the time of his death, May 10, 1921.
In 1876 he was married to Miss Rachel Alvira Walsh. To this union were born ten children, seven of whom are now living. They are William T. Hicks of Glade Springs, Va., Mrs. Lillie Osborn of Big Creek, Tenn., Mrs. Tiny Danner of Neva, Tenn., Charles Hicks of Dante, Va., Mrs. Bessie Myers of Fossil, and Andrew Hicks of Arlington, Oregon.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Horace Kaye of the Fossil M. E. church, Wednesday, and interment was in the Masonic cemetery.
CARD OF THANKS - Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Myers and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hicks desire to thank the many kind friends who assisted them during the recent illness and death of their beloved father, John C. Hicks.

John Calvin Hicks died of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever contracted from ticks on his sheep at his camp near Service Creek, OR. He walked nearly 20 miles to Bessie and Arts ranch, near Fossil, where he died.
