9052 With great sorrow the family of Mary Arnold announces the final journey she has made on Monday, January 21, 2019 to her heavenly home at the age of 90 years old. She will join her one and only true love Delmer with her loving parents, brothers and sisters at his side. Mary is survived by her children, Ruth (Tom) Roubal, Eddie (Dianne) Arnold, Jennifer (John) DelFrari and, Dianna (Richard) Rosler. With her husband still in Italy, he would join her several weeks later in Tennessee. Due to the health of Delmer, they came to Tucson, Arizona. This became Mary's home for the next 72 years. In that time Mary created her own dynasty of over 65 family members and accomplished many great things in her life. The most treasured gift was doing and giving to her family. She will be greatly missed and she leaves this world of pain for a King of peace. Services will be at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave. Viewing at 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Family will officiate her service. Interment South Lawn Cemetery.

9053 With sadness in our hearts we announce that Martha Lee Finney Poole, 88, of the Little Milligan Community in Butler, Tenn., slipped peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at The Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Martha was born to the late Robert Andrew Finney and Flora Hatley Finney. In addition to her parents, she was ushered into Heaven by her beloved husband, James Poole; three brothers, Robert “Bob” Finney, Phillip Finney and John L. Finney; and three sisters, Minnie Bell Finney, Beulah Richardson and Georgia Mae Taylor.
Martha was raised up going to Elk River Baptist Church on the principal of God and family, a principal she not only believed in but also lived her life as. She was small in stature but mighty and fierce in values and the love she had for her Lord, her family and her friends. Being from a large family in a country setting Martha learned early in life to share kindness and to work hard. She cleaned houses to support her family and lost her husband very early in their life, but never missed a beat raising her children in the Lord’s house and supplying them with love and respect. In her retirement years she enjoyed shopping trips with her sisters and going out to eat, but especially passing the day with anyone that dropped by for a “big Martha smile” and a laugh. For all these reasons we will all miss Martha and remember her always because as the Bible says to be absent in body is to be present with the Lord and that is what will comfort us in our time of need.
Martha would not want to say those left to cherish her memories, but she would say those waiting to join her include her children, Greta Poole Odom and husband Rick, and her son, Gregory Poole and his fiancée Tracie; one sister, Jo Burchette; and also many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, church family and her many wonderful neighbors.
Martha’s “homegoing” service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, October 11, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Brian Cable, Pastor Larry Pearson and Pastor Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by Traci Shelton Powers. Friends will be able to visit with the family and share memories and pay condolences from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service. Martha’s graveside service will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Butler, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family at Elk River Baptist Church and the staff of The Waters of Roan Highlands.

9075 Zilphia Jones lived adjacent to John Wesley Roten from 1860 to 1907, when they were married. The Ashe County, NC census records indicate that Zilphia had seven children out of wedlock while living nexr door to John Roten. After their marriage, many of her children assumed the Roten surname. It is very likely that John Wesley Roten and Zilphia were paramours, and that he was the father of Zilphia's children. Jones, Zilphia (I70755)

9077 Zola Ewan Hudson, 85, left her earthly home on October 20, 2018 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Zola was born April 24, 1933, to Roy and Mary Lee Almany of Bristol, Virginia. She met the love of her life, Bob Hudson, while attending Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, Florida. They were married on September 13, 1958. Zola was the perfect military wife and mother during Bob's twenty-year career with the United States Air Force. After Bob's retirement from the Air Force, Zola was by his side, serving as an Assemblies of God missionary. They were "Mom" and "Pop" to military families stationed all over the world.
Zola was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cleo Perdue (Gene), Gladys Tinsley (Harold) and Garnett Ducar (John). She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob Hudson; daughters, Ewan Patterson and Angie Jones and her husband Mike; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer and Wade Moore, Brian and Amy Fullbright, Kristi and Ethan Wade, Katie and Brenden Marz; 6 great-grandchildren who loved their Nannie with all their hearts, Kaylin and Chloe Moore, Hunter and Hudson Fullbright, Winnie and Millie Wade. Words are inadequate to express how much it meant to us when our Lakeland family stepped up to assist with her care. Zola's family was truly the light of her life, second only to the love of her husband and the Lord.

From Susan O'Keefe at orion321@verizon.net

The 1920 Geneva, Geneva Co., AL census listed William, Clara Daisy, and their four children. Sometime after that census was taken in January, William walked out the front door one evening, boarded a West bound train and never returned, never contacted any of his family direct. He left Daisy and their four small children destitute with only the house they lived in. In 1939, 19 years later, William filed for divorce.
